The Food Groups

Objectives

 


Food is needed for growth, energy and for protection against diseases.

 

3 food groups

Body- building food (Proteins)

  1. Helps the body to grow
  2. To repair any part of the body that is worn- out
  3. Supplies the body with warmth and energy

Protective food( Vitamins and Minerals)

  1. Protect the body against diseases
  2. Helps the body to function properly

Energy- giving food(Carbohydrates and Fats)

  1. Gives the body energy for work and play
  2. Keep the body warm.
  3. Provides energy for breathing,beating of the heart, digestion and removal of waste matter from the body

Food comes from animals and plants

Flowers Cauliflower, Broccoli
Leaves Lettuce, Cabbage, Mustard green
Fruits Pineapple, Papaya, Bananas
Roots Turnip, Cassava, Carrot
Seeds and pods Dhal, Soya beans, French beans, Long beans
Stems Celery, Sugar cane
Animals

Sources

Meat beef , chicken, pork, mutton
Offal kidneys, liver, stomach, tongue
Seafood crayfish,prawns, fish ,crab
